My Louisiana Downs Days

Here is where it started, my career as a racehorse that is.  The good folks of Churchill Downs had an abbreviated meet at Louisiana Downs to take the place of the Fair Grounds while they re-cooperated from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. This was good for me, otherwise I think I would have been freezing in Turfway Park…burr!  Instead, Team Stewart let me ready for my maiden run down in a better climate.  I was a bit of a slow learner just not realizing the horse I was running with in the morning is suppose to be behind me.  What difference does it make..really? In front, in back, hey as long as we are all out there running, isn’t that the only thing that matters? At least that is how I saw it.  I just wanted to be on the outside of my buddy so if there is someone taking pictures in the grandstand, they would get my good side!  My sister, Keltish Lass, well she is really not my sister but we were stable brother and sister both of us the West Point people our immediate family. Keltish Lass was making me look bad. In the morning she was a quick learner but always had a setback because she had some minor physical problems….HA!  Not me!  I was sound as a horse?  Well, I guess cause I am a horse (gelding but thats our secret)

So the West Point family were coming to see Keltish at Louisiana Downs and at Oaklawn. They would peek in at me from time to time and they were always taken by my bod!  Everyone says I get my looks from my Dad. His name is Cherokee Run. The assistant here said she knows my Dad. I’d love to meet him. Hey, maybe he can give me some pointers on this racing thing…..Nah, Cathy keeps telling me when she clips the hair out of my ears that slow is my friend. She said some day I will figure it out.
